Tourism-related Multipliers

Definition
Employment and income multipliers for retail, lodging, recreation, and transportation sectors.
How its Used
These multipliers are used, along with average revenue per employee and average value added per employee, to estimate induced and indirect jobs and payroll for each economic sector.
How to Estimate it or Where to Get It
Where available, income and employment multipliers can greatly reduce the amount of data which must be collected to estimate the multiplier effects in a community. Getting multipliers (that you can have confidence in), however, is not always easy, especially if the jurisdiction is a city. The problem is that the input-output models used to develop multipliers become increasingly uncertain as the economy modeled becomes smaller and less diverse. Caution should be urged in using multipliers developed for geographic areas not equal to the jurisdictional boundaries.
